A marketing and public relations professional with more than 20 years of experience in the education field, Jean is known by her clients as a responsive, inventive, energetic member of the marketing team. With a long career in academic publishing and ed tech, Jean's current and former clients include Cengage Learning (formerly Thomson Learning), Prentice Hall, Follett, Pearson Education Canada, WebAssign, LexisNexis, CTB-McGraw Hill, and others. Her client base also includes a fiber optics company, a rehabilitation hospital, retail operations, and real estate companies.
During Jean's 20-year career in public relations and communications, she has worked for national marketing agencies and major educational firms. She worked for Brooks/Cole Publishing for 12 years, where she was a marketing manager, an advertising manager, an assistant director of marketing communications, and gained valuable time on campus and in the field working with domestic and international sales forces and channels. Later, she ventured out on her own, where she owned and operated her own agencies: Two Chicks Marketing in Monterey, Calif., and Bend, Ore., and Thompson Drake Public Relations and Marketing Communications in Bend, Ore.
Jean began her career as a public relations coordinator for Lloyds Bank after graduating with a degree in public relations from California State University, Fresno. She continued her education at UCLA and California State University, Los Angeles.
Doug Thompson boasts more than 20 years of experience in the public relations industry, as well as another six years in the newspaper arena as an editor, reporter, writer and copy editor. His ability to expertly work with the media is underscored by his background in journalism.
Whether it's creating a results-driven campaign, writing an expertly crafted news release or pitch, devising copy that sings or bylining a story for a trade publication of note, Doug has the versatility to tailor his talents to meet the needs and desires of his individual clients and their consumers. Doug has worked with clients in a variety of industries, including education, publishing, real estate, hospitality, golf, government, and retail.
During Doug's 22-year career in PR, he has worked for such national agencies as Gibbs & Soell Public Relations, a global company headquartered in New York City; Bostrom Corporation, headquartered in Chicago; Paul Kagan Associates, based in Carmel, Calif.; and Armanasco Public Relations, based in Monterey, Calif. He also has owned and operated his own agencies: Thompson/Teele Public Relations in Monterey, Calif., and Thompson Public Relations, in Monterey, Calif., and Bend, Ore., and Thompson Drake Public Relations and Marketing Communications, in Bend, Ore.
A native of Carmel on Northern California's Monterey Peninsula, Doug served four years as editor and, later, publisher of The Carmel Pine Cone. Writing has always come naturally to Doug, who pursued journalism in college at two award-winning California programs: Santa Barbara City College and California State University, Northridge.
Judy Drake is a talented writer and project manager who has helped numerous clients promote new products and expand into new markets. Judy excels at writing interesting and accurate website copy, advertising material, white papers, speeches, training documentation, newsletters, and marketing research reports for various clients, such as college textbook publishers, an internet software company, a fuel-cell system manufacturer, a marketing research company, a fiber-optics training company, and the local school district.
Before becoming one of the principal partners in Thompson Drake Public Relations and Marketing Communications, Judy worked as a freelance writer, and she held positions at Tektronix, Inc., in Portland, Ore., as Technical Writing Project Leader. She also worked at Orcom Systems, in Bend, Ore., as a Senior Technical Writer. She also worked as a Public Relations Writer for Central Oregon Community College. Judy holds a degree in English Literature from Stanford University.
